MANITOU Navigates Product Development Terrain
with CoCreate Suite Forklift-truck manufacturer picks up design flexibility, easy-to-use
applications by standardization on CoCreate Modeling. |
MANITOU relies on Modeling's Explicit Modeling based approach to 3D product development to help engineers flexibly change models as new insight and innovative ideas arise.
"We use the Explicit Modeling based approach to streamline our collaboration with development partners," said Christian Herrmann, MANITOU's IT Director. "For example, our team imports partner's CAD models for diesel engines right into CoCreate Modeling, where we can easily fit fixture geometry to our current requirements."
MANITOU has also streamlined development with CoCreate's online collaboration software. MANITOU saves with CoCreate OneSpace.net as its teams collaborate on projects with external partners (suppliers, subcontractors). OneSpace.net cuts business travel and results in fewer communication mishaps.
MANITOU recently replaced its highly customized PDM environment with CoCreate Model Manager. This standard solution integrates tightly with CoCreate Modeling and offers impressive performance when working with large assemblies.
"CoCreate Model Manager is easy to implement and easy to use," said Herrmann. "So much so, that our engineering departments at MANITOU will adopt it. CoCreate Model Manager will be deployed in France this year."
MANITOU plans to further streamline product development and lifecycle management by integrating CoCreate Model Manager into its ERP system. That way, the company can exchange technical data when transitioning from development to manufacturing.
"Our aim was to extend the use/usage of our CAD-PLM system, which is considered powerful and flexible by our end users," said Herrmann. "And we needed a product development environment that can easily be integrated via standard connections into our future ERP system. CoCreate's PLM solution combines all these things."

WorkManager is selected from UK Ministry of defence for the radar project
CoCreate’s
distributed product-information and process-management solution WorkManager
has been selected as the information-management system for the UK’s Ministry
of Defence Airborne Stand-Off Radar (ASTOR) Project. The system will be
linked to an existing U.S. system and will provide a Web-based workflow
document-management system, integrating Raytheon, its subcontractors and
the UK Ministry of Defence. The system uses WorkManager’s Web Access Server,
Distributed File Server and Global DataManager.
To enable the partial replication of metadata and files between the UK and the United States, WorkManager’s Global DataManager and Distributed File Servers are being employed.
The £800 million (US $ 1.3 billion) airborne radar surveillance program provides day/night and all-weather imagery of the ground over a large area. The imagery can be analyzed on board the aircraft and passed in near real-time to ground stations and other military systems.
Raytheon's winning proposal combines proven radar technology with a defined upgrade path, the best aircraft in the Bombardier Aerospace Global Express, and the ground station expertise of Motorola, providing the British Armed Forces with the most technologically advanced system in the world.
"Due to the size of the ASTOR contract, we needed a global information
management system that could control and share a large number of documents
among the contractors and publish the documents online to the customer,"
said Mike Payne, systems development manager for Raytheon Systems Limited.
"After evaluating other leading products, we chose WorkManager because

OneSpace Designer sets standards for Panasonic copiers, fax machines and printers
OneSpace
Designer 3-D modeling solution has been fully deployed at Tokyo-based Matsushita
Graphic Communication Systems (MGCS), a subsidiary of the Matsuhita Electric
Industrial Group, in its product-development process for designing world-famous
Panasonic brand copiers, fax machines and color printers.
The Office Equipment Division, which makes Panasonic high-performance
business copiers and color printers, was able to implement OneSpace Designer
and take full advantage of its 3-D modeling processes in just four months.
"Our former 3-D CAD software was very complicated, so only some
of our designers used it, and we couldn’t realize the full benefit of its
capabilities," said Takeshi Tanaka, senior coordinator for MGCS’s Information
Systems Department. "After only two days of OneSpace Designer demonstrations
and evaluation, I was fully convinced that OneSpace Designer was the right
choice for us"
According to MGCS, a key reason for choosing OneSpace Designer was its
dynamic modeling environment, which allows design revisions that are not
constrained by previous design assumptions. "OneSpace Designer’s dynamic modeling
technology allows the easy modification of 3-D models. This feature is
very practical and useful for our design work," said Tanaka.
