What's new in Model Manager 2006

With Model Manager 2006, we sought to

Model Manager 2006 runs on OneSpace Manager 2005 and higher databases, but some features are only available on the 2006 database.

Now you can...

Work with very large assemblies more easily.

• Lightweight models allow you to view a large assembly with more visual information than a partial load, but require less memory than the full model.

• User interface enhancements make it easier to load, save, and reload. Use filter and search to focus on specific areas; for example, to find items impacted by a save, or items you do or do not have reserved to choose the load type.

• Create a new model from an existing model by assigning a new SysID instead of copying the model.

• Use the power of Windows XP x64 Edition systems. You can optimize Model Manager performance based on the relative performance of the client and server.

Generate BOM reports for more kinds of parts.

• The BOM Editor user interface now includes a task panel and task bar for easy access. Click a column header to sort the entries based on the values in that column.

• Use the Manage Position Numbers wizard to order parts and then reassign position numbers based on your organization's numbering criteria.

• Use the BOM report wizard to generate single- or multi-level BOM reports with different items and formats for different uses. Report configuration is much easier.

• Send reports to Excel and HTML with contextual header information.

Use snapshots more effectively.

• You now choose a load rule when loading a snapshot. Model Manager now saves the load type, position, and drawlist for each model and resumes with the active modeling configuration.

Work with Annotation drawings easier.

• When you save your drawing, Model Manager will automatically include any necessary 3D models that need to be saved. That way you no longer need to return to Designer Modeling to save the models before saving the drawing.

• Save a frame in the OneSpace Manager database and it's automatically available for other designers.

See and use more model attributes in Designer Modeling.

• The Designer Modeling Structure Browser includes Model Manager-specific searches, filters, and attributes so you can do more of your Model Manager tasks from Designer Modeling.

Configure more user preferences.

• You can set even more user preferences to control the Model Manager user interface. You can now reset all of your preferences to their default values.

Use Drawing Manager with more flexibility.

• You can now run Drawing Manager outside of Designer Drafting, using the lower-cost 2D license, and view drawings with 2D Access. You can install both Drawing Manager and 2D Access from the Software Distribution Server.

• From Model Manager you can load drawings into Annotation / 3D-Access or Drafting / 2D-Access.

• You can now load a backup drawing file.

See other enhancements.

• Easily change the owner of Model Manager objects. Use wildcards in the online help search pane.

Now administrators can...

Use MS SQL Server.

• The OneSpace Manager database can now run on either Oracle 9i or Microsoft SQL Server 2005.

• Support database attribute values in most languages with Unicode on ME SQL Server 2005.

Customize more features with new XML tags.

• New XML tags customize more elements of the Model Manager Workspace.

Add a watermark to PDF files.

• New customizable macros insert a watermark on all PDF files generated from Annotation.

See other system changes.

• Clients are no longer supported on HP-UX.

Now customizers can...

Find comprehensive customization information.

• The new Model Manager Customization Guide includes XML customization, Java API extensions for Model Manager, and Web service integration with OneSpace Manager. Search wildcards make it easier to find XML tag documentation.

Configure Table Column Models using XML Commands.

• Customize the columns displayed in Model Manager windows. You can choose which columns to include, customize column titles, or change the column order.

Configure more of Model Manager in Designer Modeling.

• Remove Model Manager menu items from Designer Modeling.

• Pass attributes between Model Manager and Designer Modeling. Model Manager no longer uses the DB*REF attributes.

• Specify what to do with foreign database information during a save or refresh status.

Use NetBeans 4.1 to extend Model Manager.

• The Model Manager customization environment is much easier to set up with NetBeans 4.1's new project features. NetBeans 4.1 includes new refactoring tools so you can simplify your code.
